Methodology Handbook Published
As part of the Erasmus+ project "Democracy in Action: Empowering Adults to Teach the Next Generation (Democracy4All Ages)", the project consortium has published the Methodology Handbook.
The handbook is designed for early childhood educators, teachers, adult educators, trainers, and other education professionals. It provides a practical methodological framework for promoting democratic values, active citizenship, and meaningful participation among children aged 5 to 9.
Based on the project's research activities, an international needs assessment, and the collaborative work of project partners from Austria, Poland, and Greece, the handbook combines research-based knowledge with practical methods that can be directly applied in educational settings. It draws on key international frameworks, including the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the Council of Europe's Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC), as well as the educational approaches of Janusz Korczak and Philosophy for Children (P4C).
The Methodology Handbook is now available as a free download.
The Methodology Handbook represents the methodological foundation of the Democracy in Action project. It presents the shared pedagogical approach developed by the project partners and demonstrates how democratic values, children's rights, participation, and active citizenship can be fostered in practical ways from early childhood onwards. In addition to its theoretical framework, the handbook offers practical methodologies, educational principles, evaluation tools, and guidance for implementation in both formal and non-formal learning environments. It is intended primarily for teachers, early childhood educators, adult educators, trainers, and multipliers who wish to integrate democratic education sustainably into their daily practice.
The handbook was jointly developed by project partners from Austria, Poland, and Greece. It is based on an international needs assessment, national research reports, and the outcomes of the project's joint Learning, Teaching and Training Activity (LTTA).
Published as an Open Educational Resource (OER), the handbook is available free of charge and may be freely used, shared, adapted, and further developed with appropriate acknowledgement of the source.
